Research Project Overview

The global payments market comprises an increasingly broad range of traditional, new and evolving payment methods. From debit, credit, ACH and cash to prepaid and corporate cards, mobile payments, micro payments, closed loop and other online payment models, the payments market continues to generate new business challenges and opportunities to all players in the value chain.

To understand how Irish companies can take advantage of the many changes occurring in the North American market, Enterprise Ireland is undertaking a research project from December 2007 to May 2008 to pursue the following objectives:

Develop an in-depth understanding of the broader issues in the Payments market – drivers for evolution, key challenges, technology gaps, regulatory trends etc.

Identify and analyze the role played in B2B and B2C payment areas by each constituent of the payment value chain: retail banks, card associations, processors, technology providers, ecommerce engines, payment gateways etc.

Highlight the emerging opportunities in the US market for Irish companies, whether offering vertical or horizontal solutions into the payments market.

Build a network of North American payments professionals, identify business development opportunities and secure client introductions where appropriate.
